Make a one-page botanical encyclopedia. A page for watching plants change with the seasons. The feel of an old botanical illustration encyclopedia. Paper texture, lots of margins, small and neat text. Make it stylish. About six plants. Ones whose appearance changes dramatically with each season, like a cherry tree, hydrangea, and maple. When I move the slider, spring, summer, autumn, and winter should glide smoothly into one another. Flowers bloom, leaves grow lush, autumn colors come in, branches go bare. It shouldn't switch abruptly from one season to the next; the in-between should connect. And it should be the same plant even as the seasons change. I'd like it to be fun to touch, not just to look at. Something like they sway gently when I hover the mouse over them, and pressing one unfolds its name and a short description. It should open with a single link and be swipeable with a finger on a phone too. One link, and 1 screen recording going through a full cycle of seasons while pressing various things.

Evaluation criteria

  • When the slider is dragged, do the plants move through the seasons together, and does the transition stay continuous in between without breaking?
  • Do each plant’s stems and branches stay the same as the seasons change?
  • Are seasonal appearances accurate (cherry blossom in spring, autumn foliage, bare winter branches and so on)?
  • Do plants respond to mouse and touch and reveal names and descriptions when selected?
  • Do the illustrations and page design look cohesive like one guidebook rather than a generic template?
  • Does one link open on a phone and allow seasons to be changed by touch?

# Make a botanical encyclopedia page where you can change the seasons

## What to make
- A single page with the feel of a botanical illustration encyclopedia (paper texture, wide margins, small and neat text)
- About six plants whose appearance changes greatly with the seasons
- A slider makes spring, summer, autumn, and winter change seamlessly one into the next
- The plants remain the same even as the seasons change (stem and branch shapes preserved)
- Responds to mouse and touch, and pressing a plant unfolds its name and a short description
- Opens with a single link and can be swiped with a finger on a phone
- 1 screen recording going through a full cycle of seasons while pressing things

## Evaluation criteria
- When the slider is moved, do the plants move through the seasons together, with the in-between states continuous and unbroken?
- Do the stem and branch shapes of each plant stay the same as the seasons change?
- Does each season's appearance match reality (cherry blossoms in spring, autumn leaves in autumn, leaves falling in winter, etc.)?
- Do the plants respond to mouse and touch, and do the name and description appear when pressed?
- Are the plant illustration style and page design unified like a single book of plates, and does it avoid looking like a template web page?
- Does it open with a single link, and can the seasons be changed with a finger on a phone?
